Life in Australia booklet Featured

The Australian Commonwealth Government, through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has released a small booklet that provides information about Australian history, culture, society and the values we share to help you understand the values statement before you sign.

If you are applying for a provisional or permanent visa, you will need to read, or have had explained to you, the Life in Australia book before you sign the values statement.

If you have difficulty, or are unable to read the book, ask a friend or family member to explain the contents to you. Alternatively, you may have the content of the book explained to you by your sponsor or your agent if you have one, or by a departmental officer.

Australian Values StatementApplicants for provisional, permanent and a small number of temporary visas are required to have read, or had explained to them, material made available by the government on life in Australia which is contained in the Life in Australia book. These applicants are also asked to understand what may be required of them if they apply for Australian citizenship. This statement is included in affected visa application forms and all applicants aged 18 years and over will need to sign the statement.

The Life in Australia book may be downloaded or read online, further information on the Australian Values statement can also be found on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
